Scenery

Deep valleys, lush forests, tall peaks, desert treks, with many vistas that will take your breath away. From fs.usda.gov :On the Sitgreaves, the major attractions for the visitors from the desert are the Mogollon Rim and eight cold-water lakes. From the Mogollon (pronounced: muggy-own) Rim’s 7,600- foot elevation, vista points provide inspiring views of the low lands to the south. The Rim extends two hundred miles from Flagstaff into western New Mexico.

Outdoors

Above is a mile marker for mile number 98 of the old General Crook Trail that was built in 1871 and named for General George Crook. That trail was to allow supply wagons to go from Fort Whipple, near Prescott, to Fort Apache south of Show Low. Much of that trail still exists and can be hiked.
Nearly 80% of Arizona land is federal and state land. Remove the National Parks and Indian Reservations and you have many millions of acres to hunt, camp, hike or do whatever outdoors... and its all beautiful.

Activities

Arizona has hundreds of miles of trails. Trails in wilderness areas for foot and horse, and trails for ATVs and UTVs as well. Go for a hike, horseback ride, raft trip, or climb rock. There’s plenty to do for all ages and levels of fitness.
Camping, fishing and hunting are near year round activities in the Rim Country. Some forest areas are closed from December 15 to March 31 each year due to snowfall!

Birdwatching

According to the list published by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, there are 551 bird species and subspecies found in Arizona. The towering cliffs and forests provide an important habitat for falcons, hawks and eagles. Condors can be seen in the northern parts of Arizona. In winter Bald Eagles nest in many locations along rivers and creeks of Arizona. Need to include the state bird - the Roadrunner!
Spring brings flocks of migrant birds to the Rim Country; not the least of which are the hummingbirds!

Location

Most people visit this area by car, or 4x4, or pickup truck. It’s a 2-3 hour drive from Phoenix, depending on starting location. Commercial flights are available – a short 30 minute drive from Overgaard. Our subdivision is next to the Mogollon Airpark, a private airfield! We are surrounded by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Many people of days gone by, traveled by horseback and some herded cattle to this area. No matter how you get here the scenery is awesome!
